April 8-9, 2001 — Columbus, MS — Grillin’ on the River. 33 teams gathered to cook their best! Friday started with a sprinkle of rain, but it soon cleared to 90 degree temperatures and humidity! Columbus was the first stop of KCBS’ Great American Barbeque Tour. There was music, good food of all kinds from many vendors. Willingham was there selling barbeque. My favorites are the boiled peanuts and the lemonade. There was even a masseuse offering chair massages!
Randy and Carol Bigler were the contest reps and it was a pleasure to add a 4th little pig to my pig pen on the dashboard. Setting up next to Jiggy Piggy, I started right away on my sweet potato entry — a sweet potato cheesecake cooked on the cooker. Just not enough time to let it set…it spent time in Jiggy Piggy’s freezer to chill.
My big highlight at this contest was winning people’s choice. I did my best pork and the people liked it!
Thanks, Harvey, for all your hard work.
